A True Story from Burkina Faso

I have a true story about God's faithfulness from my time in Burkina Faso.

The events that happened on the last day I was in Burkina Faso reminded me about a story from 1st Kings 17. The story in 1st Kings is about Elijah being sent to a little unsuspecting widow woman and her son who were about to give up on life. They had nearly run out of food and were about to use the last of their meal and oil to make cakes to eat and then wait for death by starvation.

But right at the last possible moment, God sent his servant Elijah to the widow, a widow who wasn’t of his race or culture.

He told her what to do and a miracle ensued. They had enough to eat every day until the famine was over.

The last day I was in Burkina Faso looked bleak for the students at our schools. Oh, the facility, books and supplies were there. Good instructors were in place. Students had great expectations for the year. School had just begun with over 750 students, but our food had run out.

You may know that we serve lunch to all the students who attend ACTS schools as many children who live in the village eat only one meal every few days. This is especially true this year because of the drought and crop failure.

We managed to scrape enough to serve meals the first two days of school, but there was no food for the next day. But at the last possible moment, God sent his servants to the orphans and students at the ACTS Center.

US visitors who were evaluating our work saw the classrooms, students, study materials, hospital, church and agricultural projects. They also saw the empty storage rooms for food.

When they left, the leader of the group put an envelope into Joanna’s hand saying, “This will help you purchase food until the container with meals arrives.” He and the rest of the group had heard from God.

They each gave what they had in US and Burkinabé currency for the purchase of food. For us, it was a miracle provision. At the last possible moment God had provided food for our students and orphans! We had no food for the next day.

We give thanks that student lunch pails will not be empty.

Children saw the food cooking in the large pots over the fire for them. Lunch pails will not be empty. All gave thanks to God for his provision.

We would like to thank all of you for being the means God uses to provide for orphans and widows in Burkina Faso. It is a joy to be able to say, our God is faithful.

A 40’ container of vitamin-enriched meals is about to arrive from the US for our school children and orphans. It is on its way by truck on the road from the port in the neighboring country of Togo. Burkina Faso doesn’t have a port as it is a landlocked country.

We are rejoicing and giving thanks to God for his provision for the children.

Any gift you may be able to give towards the work of ACTS Ministry in Burkina Faso for widows and orphans would be received with gratefulness.

Hope your hearts are full of joy and thanksgiving.

With many thanks,

Sharyl J. Sieh
