In 2011 ACTS began a new program for boys and girls from the villages and those attending the ACTS schools. ACTS formed an athletic program!

Update 2018:

ACTS continues to hold sports evangelism and soccer tournaments for schools in Komsilga. This year’s teams came entirely from secondary school level students, so the games were more interesting. This program gave the students a memorable end to their school year. (School year will end at the end of June.) Students from 14 teams from three schools participated in the courses and tournament.

The six week experience was unique for Burkina Faso. Students from the various schools came together to gain football (soccer) skills. Evangelism was included in the six-week sessions along with subjects such as the environment, civics, HIV/AIDS, moral character traits such as truthfulness and self-control.

We were pleased that ACTS College Ezra won the tournament! The photo shows the team holding the coveted trophy.

Update 2013:

ACTS primary school won the Solidarity Cup in May 2013 for primary school students and ACTS secondary school came in second in their class.

The tournament stressed the importance of peace in relationships among individuals, groups, tribes and countries.

Village youth are given an opportunity to receive soccer training and join a league run by ACTS Ministry in the rural commune of Komsilga. As you can imagine, this is extremely popular program.

Along with the soccer training, youth receive lessons for life.

They are taught about children’s rights, about peace and security, justice as learned through scripture and about their worth as unique human beings and biblical principles like honesty, integrity and faithfulness. But we add more…literacy and later, creative writing for children.

At the present time, ACTS has a writer and editor courses for adults, but none for children.

Children with potential skills would be given courses in basic writing skills. Africa has few indigenous writers and Burkina Faso has fewer than most countries. The future of Burkina Faso rests in the upcoming generation. Children who have come out of darkness into the light would be well positions to write meaningful literature for their fellow countrymen.

Background and Description of Need

Burkina Faso is a developing country where poverty is perceptible at every level of society. The UN ranks Burkina Faso as 175 out of 177 countries on their poverty list. The situation is extremely serious in rural areas. Rural villagers are subsistence farmers who rely on sporadic rains for meager harvest yields. They grow millet and a little corn. During the dry season, crops wither and when rains fail

Poverty has been exacerbated by the AIDS pandemic because of the growing number of orphans whose parents died of AIDS.

These orphans live in extreme poverty lacking access to basic education because they can't afford to pay the required fees. They then become rural street kids used in child traffic or decide to flee to larger cities where they end up in a worse condition due to lack of education and job skills.

Orphans who flee to the larger cities are drawn into drugs, stealing and prostitution; they do not know what love is like.

ACTS' vision is “to bring the love of Christ to the hurting people through education, literacy, publishing, socioeconomic empowering programs which bring life changes and gives hope to the poor.”

ACTS reaches AIDS orphans without distinction of their religious background, through holistic projects which restore human dignity. We encourage them to become self supporting and remain members of their community.

Through the practical means described above, ACTS Ministry brings hope and gives a future to AIDS orphans and other children at risk.

By partnering with ACTS Ministry you develop local capacities and reduce misery and death from poverty in the countryside.
