Gauthier and Sonya

This frightened young orphan was miraculously found on the streets of Ouagadougou. Gauthier now lives at the ACTS Center orphanage.

Executive Director Joanna Ilboudo relates how she was able to rescue a lost boy from the streets.

Since it was difficult to travel outside Burkina, I went to a Catholic convent to find rest and to pray for restoration.

There were no phones and I had plenty of time for studying the Bible and prayer. One morning the Lord allowed me to meet one nun and we began a conversation. I soon learned about the troubles faced by the nun’s widowed sister.

The widowed sister and her three children were suffering after a dreadful time in their lives. After finding profitable work in Côte d’Ivoire, the woman’s husband came back to Burkina with a considerable amount of money.

Other villagers, including his relatives, insisted that he should share his money with them. He refused and one night they killed him, took all his belongings and tortured his widow to keep her quiet.

She escaped to Ouagadougou with one daughter, Sonya, leaving two others still in the village in the clutches of the so-called uncle.

The mother became infected with AIDS after the physical abuse she suffered in the village. She had no strength or money to save her children. One of her boys, by the name of Gauthier, later ran away from the uncle and hitched a ride to the capital city, hoping to find his mother. No one knew where to look for him, but the Lord helped Joanna find him and bring him to the Hope Center in Saonré.

Gauthier thrived in the loving atmosphere of the ACTS Center and was a willing student. He successfully completed carpentry classes, went through an internship in Ouagadougou and received official certification as a carpenter.

He found a job at a furniture maker not far from Joanna’s home in Ouagadougou. He is living at the Ilboudo home and walks every day to work just a few blocks away. He is very satisfied with his job. Every evening when he gets home, he comes into the house with a big smile to greet the family.

Not only did the Lord restore Joanna to strength, but in the process he also led her to a child who needed to be restored to wholeness. Jesus is so good!

We are grateful to the Lord for the growth of the ministry. Partners like you have joined others to provide for villagers.

One of Gauthier's sisters, Sonya, had been living with their mother, but when she had no money to pay for school or receive skills training, Sonya ran away from her mother. Sonya became thin from little food and was depressed.

Sonya found her way to Ouagadougou and contacted Gauthier and Joanna Ilboudo. Joanna moved Sonya into the Hope Orphanage at the ACTS Center in October 2012. She has enrolled in vocational sewing and clothing construction training classes.

In January, Sonya accepted the Lord Jesus as savior at one of the church services at Temple Evangélique El Roi. She and Gauthier are happy and doing well.
