ACTS Disaster Response Plan

clothing
First distribution of clothing to village widows was on September 17. Each widow also received a ration of food.

A flooding disaster occurred on September 1, 2009 in the city of Ouagadougou and in the rural community around Saonré, located in the district of Komsilga.

Prime Minister Tertius Zongo said that an estimated 150,000 people were severely hit in the city of Ouagadougou and are homeless.

In the capital city, Ouagadougou, it is estimated that just on September 1, 25,000 homes were destroyed and many more weakened. He said this was the heaviest downpour since 1919.

ACTS works with poor and vulnerable people in rural areas from the ACTS Hope Center based in Saonré.

ACTS Ministry plan is to come alongside to help with this situation because it is the poor and vulnerable people in rural areas who have been hit the hardest by this disaster.

The present project is aiming to respond to the flood disaster in the city of Ouagadougou and the village of Saonré located in Komsilga. A preliminary estimate of the number of families that need assistance is 400 plus 150 orphans.

ACTS plan of response will be in two phases

(1) Immediate emergency needs: ACTS will provide food, tents, clothes, blankets, medicines, mosquito nets and school supplies. [read more about the plan]

(2) Long-term needs: ACTS would assist the vulnerable poor with their home reconstruction, replace damaged equipment, and build latrines for better hygiene and sanitation in the villages. [read more about the plan]
