Abdou's story

Abdou on one of the first days he walked into ACTS Center

Those who have been to Burkina on short-term mission assignments will remember one little orphan called Abdou. From the time he was a toddler, he felt it his duty to greet visitors. He has a winning smile and deep laugh.

When he first came to the Center this little toddler walked out from the bush on his own. His family could no longer care for him and the Lord led him to the Center. He was much too young to be walking such a distance every day.

ACTS staff followed him when he left the Center one day and found that he was an orphan living with relatives who really didn't want him. Soon thereafter he was legally given to ACTS Hope Orphanage. He has been a delight and the Lord’s hand is upon him. He is easy to love.

One teacher at our primary school said: “Abdou is among the six top of his class this year. He changed and understands what school is about. He does not hang around playing, rather when he has a little time he will look for a place to do his homework.”

Executive Director Joanna Ilboudo says, "I was pleased and encouraged to hear these words. Abdou came to Hope Center at the age of three and now he is a bit over six years.

"Not only is he seeking to work hard at school, but he is also interested in music. His favorite musical instrument is the drum. Once, at home with my family, he creative a set of drums out of cans.

"I was touched by this initiative and the next day, I bought him a drum which he is still using."

The young man who teaches music to the children said: “This child has the beat of drums in his blood; he knows how to follow the rhythm.”

Update 2013

Abdou is growing up. After living at the ACTS Center for give years, he is a strong, healthy boy. We give thanks for the prayers said on his behalf, the good care received by the ACTS Center staff and the vitamin-enriched meals he has eaten at the ACTS Center since he was very little toddler.

Abdou says he wants to be a nurse and help people. He also wants to play the drums.
